Greg was known by his nick name of "Tony", he was born in Duncan, Oklahoma and grew up in Odessa. He was the son of Juanita and Ed Stevenson. He attended Odessa schools from the first grade through graduation. He was a 1966 graduate of Permian High School. After high school, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone. He married Carolyn Rehders, a 1967 graduate of Odessa High school on June 10, 1967. He was the father of a daughter Toni Lee. He was drafted into the Army in the late spring of 1969. He completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and then went to Fort Hood, Texas.
He started his tour in Vietnam on December 4, 1969. He was a tank crewman and served with the C Troop, 1st Squad, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, attached to USARV. He was killed on July 24, 1970 in his 8th month in country. He was on the outside of a tank when it hit an embankment and rolled over and Tony was thrown off and the tank rolled over on him.
He was buried with full military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Odessa. He was survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter, Toni Lee, his parents and one brother Eddie Stevenson who was in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas when Tony was killed.
