BIOGRAPHY

  • Rogelio Saucedo was born and raised in Eagle Pass. He was born to Librado and Carmen Saucedo. His family moved to Odessa in 1963 when his father took a job with Permian Metals. He attended Ector High School for one year. He entered the U.S. Army as a draftee from Odessa in the fall of 1966. He was inducted at Abilene, Texas and completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and Artillery Crewman training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
  • He began his tour in Vietnam on March 23, 1967, and was assigned as an ammo bearer for the A Battery, 1st Battalion, 21st Artillery Group, First Cavalry Division. He had just joined his unit in the field and was killed in an accident within a few days. He was filling sandbags on a work detail when the sandbag bank caved it and caused him to hit his head against a military vehicle. He died immediately from a neck fracture.
  • He was buried with full military honors in Our Lady of Refuge in Eagle Pass, Texas. His father was killed in a work-related accident July 20, 1968, at Permian Metals and is buried next to Rogelio. The family returned to Eagle Pass following his death.
  • Other family members who survived him were his brothers, Raul, David, Oscar and Ernest. Also are his sisters, Imelda, Norma and Gracius
