BIOGRAPHY

  • Antonio (Tony) Reyes was born in Lamesa on April 30, 1948. He attended school in Lamesa and O'Donnell before attending Lubbock Christian College and the Gray, Texas, Job Corps Center. Tony Reyes enjoyed swimming, tennis, and baseball.
  • Tony was drafted into the Army in early 1968. He completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and then completed engineer training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was trained as a water treatment specialist. He started his Vietnam tour on August 20, 1968. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 8th Engineering Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division and was involved with 25 aerial missions. Sgt. Reyes and another soldier were killed while driving a jeep when a booby trap was set off on January 21. 1969.
  • Tony received a posthumous promotion to Sergeant and was buried with full military honors in the Peaceful Garden's Cemetery in the Woodrow Community of Lubbock County.
