BIOGRAPHY

  • Edmundo was born in Crystal City, Zavala County, Texas. He was the oldest child and son of Juanita Martinez and Emilio Gomez. He had twin younger sisters and two other sisters. He was raised in Uvalde, Texas and had attended Uvalde schools. He joined the Army October 1, 1955, from Uvalde. He was a career soldier. His wife, Ursula 's was a German National and she was living in Big Spring, near one of Raymundo's sisters, while Raymundo was in Vietnam.
  • Raymundo had been in the Army 10 years, had tours in Korea and Germany. He had begun his tour in Vietnam on November 8, 1966. He was assigned to 196th Light Infantry Brigade under the operational control of the Americal Division as a platoon sergeant. He had been in Vietnam six months and was killed by an explosive device and suffered multiple fragment wounds. He was buried with full military honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
  • He was survived by his wife, Ursula of the home as well as his three children, Connie age 10, David age 8 and Michael age 6. He was also survived by his sister, Inez Velasquez of Big Spring, and two sisters.
