BIOGRAPHY

  • A descendent of the Cauble family which had roots in Texas to the 1830's. He was born in Alpine, Texas and the family moved to Fort Davis in 1957. He was the oldest of seven sons born to Manuela Alvarado and George Clinton Cauble, Jr. He was christened as "Arthur" and was known as Art.
  • He was a graduate of Fort Davis High School in 1968 and entered the U.S. Marines after graduation. He completed boot camp at the Marine Recruit Training Depot at San Diego, California and ITR at Camp Pendleton, California. He began his tour in Vietnam, November 11, 1968. He was assigned as a rifleman with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In early March 1969, the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines were involved in Operation Taylor Common, west of An Hoa, Quang Nam Province. At this point, the opposing NVA/VC forces had taken a beating and were withdrawing rapidly before the advancing Marines. The rear guard of the enemy fought on in bitter fighting. On March 4, 1969, Kilo Company came under intense heavy fire from an entrenched enemy. Another company came in to provide assistance. PFC Cauble was one of two marines killed in his company and one of six marines who died during the overall operation.
  • He was buried with full military honors at the Saint Joseph's Cemetery, in Fort Davis. He was survived by his parents, and his brothers, Alred, George, Frank, Eddie, Sam and Michael
