BIOGRAPHY

  • Pedro was born in Del Rio, Texas to the marriage of Juliana and Daniel Solis Rodriguez. He was the youngest of five children with three older brothers and one older sister. His family moved to San Angelo in 1953 when Juan was 3 years old. He attended San Angelo schools. His father died in 1963 and is buried in the Calvery Cemetery in San Angelo. Juan enlisted in the Marine Corp on June 6, 1967, at age 17, entering at Abilene, Texas. His mother moved to South Bend, Indiana shortly thereafter to be near her daughter.
  • He completed his recruit training at the Marine Recruit Training Depot at San Diego, California and then completed his ITR as a rifleman/machine gunner at Camp Pendleton, California. He was assigned to the 8th Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, South Carolina in December 1967. and reassigned to Camp Pendleton to serve with the 28th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton in February 1968.
  • He began his tour in Vietnam on June 14, 1968, and was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. He served as a machine gunner. He was killed on August 22, 1968, in the Quang Tri Province.
  • He was buried with full military honors in the Chapel Hill's Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Osceola, Indiana. He was survived by his mother and his brothers, Daniel, Vicente and Jose and his sister Rosa. His brother Vicent as killed in an automobile accident in 1971, his brother Daniel died from a heart attack in 1977 in Sweetwater, Texas and his brother Juan passed in 1981 and his mother in 2012, all are buried in the Oceola, Indiana area.
