BIOGRAPHY

  • Lloyd was born in Lamesa, Texas to Thelma Bristo and Lloyd William Evans, Sr. The family located to San Angelo where Lloyd grew up and attended school. He was a 1964 graduate of San Angelo Central High School where he was the President of the A Cappella Choir and a member of the track team. After high school, he attended Abilene Christian College for two years and was majoring in English. He last attended ACC the spring of 1966.
  • He was drafted into the Army in January 1967 and completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Medic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He married to Lynn Elaine Baggett, a 1965 Odessa High School graduate before he left for Vietnam. He began his tour in Vietnam on August 16, 1967. He was assigned as a medic to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He had completed 11½ months of his one-year tour, when he was killed in hostile action on July 31, 1968, in the Binh Duong Province. He was assisting wounded soldiers when he sustained a gunshot wound to his back.
  • He was buried with full military honors in the Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas. He was awarded a posthumous Bronze Star, Purple Heart, ARCOM and Vietnam Military Merit Medal. He was survived by his wife, Lynn and his parents all of San Angelo. His father passed away in 1976 and is buried next to Lloyd.
