BIOGRAPHY

  • Howard was a Midland native. He was the oldest of 13 children born to Clara Richardson and George K. Satterfield. He was making the service his career. He was married and divorced and the father of a daughter, Clara. He spent over 17 years in the military, 14 years in Army and 3 years in the Marine Corp and was a cook. He had served in Germany, Korea, Japan and several stateside assignments.
  • He began his tour in Vietnam on February 19, 1970, and was assigned as a cook with the 101st Admin Company, 101st Airborne Division. Around August 25, 1970, Howard was burned over 90% of his body when a field cook stove blew up. He was medevac'd to Camp Zama, Japan where he died August 29, 1970.
  • He was buried with full military honors at the Resthaven Memorial Garden's Cemetery in Midland, Texas.
