BIOGRAPHY

  • Robert Lee Brock was born in Odessa, the third son born to Bertha Fern Aulds and Joe Ezra Brock. He attended Odessa schools. His parents divorced when he was in grade school and his father was transferred to Southeastern Utah with Phillips Petroleum Company. He moved to Montezuma Creek, Utah and lived with his father the last two years of high school. He graduated from San Juan High School in Blanding, Utah in 1967. He returned to Odessa and attended Odessa College for a year. He was engaged to Karen Davis of Montezuma Creek, Utah and they were waiting until she graduated from high school to get married.
  • He enlisted in the Army in Salt Lake, Utah in October 1969 and completed basic and infantry training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He started his tour in Vietnam on March 11, 1970. He was assigned as an infantryman with C Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On May 24, 1970, a little over two months after he started his tour, he and another soldier were killed by friendly fire from an artillery round while engaged in a fire fight.
  • Robert Lee Brock was promoted posthumously to Corporal. He also earned a posthumous award of the RVN Military Merit Medal, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. His body was returned to Montezuma Creek, Utah for his funeral and he was buried with full military honors at Sunset Memorial Garden's Cemetery in Odessa, Texas on Saturday, June 6, 1970. He was survived by his father Joe Brock of Montezuma Creek, Utah, his mother Fern O'Pry of Beaumont, Texas, his brothers, Kelton Brock of Houston, Dan Brock of Odessa, Texas and Joe K. Brock of Beaumont.
  • His father passed away in 1994 and now rests next to him. His mother is also buried in Sunset Memorial Garden's Cemetery in another location, she passed away in 1997.
